“How much is it going to cost me?”  is one of the first questions we are asked when a customer is thinking of purchasing a gas fire, how much for the initial purchase and installation and then how much is it going to add to my gas bill.  What is not commonly thought of is “How much is it going to save me?”.  Following research produced by Enertek International it seems that by using your gas fire as a single room heating source you could make considerable savings.

If you switch off your central heating and just use the gas fire to heat the room you could save as much £1,267 with a non-condensing boiler and £1,064 with a condensing boiler over a nine month period from Autumn to Spring.  This would be ideal for someone who spends most of their day in one room (perhaps an elderly person).

For those that still want to use the central heating the report shows that by reducing your central heating room thermostat from 21° to 18° and using your gas fire to maintain the temperature of 21° you could save £356 (non-condensing boiler) or £303 (condensing boiler) over a nine month period.

Of course variables such as house construction, frequency of use, floor plans and insulation may alter the results but overall this report show the huge potential there is to make savings by using your gas fire as a single room heating source.

With the convenience of remote control and by strategically positioning the fire where the heat is needed most in the room, you can reduce the need for additional heating and fully benefit from the warmth the fire produces.

With such a huge range of products on the market your tastes and requirements can be fully catered for, whether you want the ambiance of a stove with log flame effect or a stunning hole-in the-wall style centrepiece, your dreams can be realised. When taking into account your heating requirements and ensuring you have the right size appliance you can really begin to ask yourself “Can I afford not to have a gas fire?”.
